Galaxy Pale Ale

In 2016, this Pale Ale was entered the American Homebrew Association's National Homebrew Competition and took home first place in the San Diego First Round. The brewers were none other than Jared Veldheer, the ‘offensive tackle’ for the NFL Arizona Cardinals.

This single hop beer uses Australian Galaxy hop, know for passion fruit aroma and flavor as well as blasts of clean citrus and peach. At times, you can also experience pineapple and tropical fruit notes.

 

Ingredients

5 kg 2-row Pale Malt

0.45 kg Vienna Malt

0.45 kg White Wheat Malt

15 g Galaxy pellet hops, 12.6% a.a. (60 min)

85 g Galaxy pellet hops, 12.6% a.a. (Whirlpool)

85 g Galaxy pellet hops, 12.6% a.a. (dry hop at time of yeast pitch)

55 g Galaxy pellet hops, 12.6% a.a. (dry hop on day 6 for 4 days)

California Ale yeast (WLP001) or Safale 05

 

Process

Mash at 65 degrees C for one hour.

60 min boil with hop additions as per recipe

Ferment at 18-20 degrees C for approx 11 days or until fermentation is fully complete.
