Which yeast? Safale 04 or 05

The 11.5g Safale 04 and 05 yeasts are a great step up from the 5g yeast sachet that comes with most beer kits.  The larger size gives you a cleaner ferment with less “off flavours that is experienced with stress from under-pitched yeast.

The Fermentis Safale yeasts have been popular yeasts among home brewers and commercial brewers around the world. The Safale 04 is an English Ale yeast perfect for a range of English Ales and the Safale 05 is a very clean American ale strain. So which yeast do you want to use?

Safale 04 English Ale Yeast

Safale 04 English Ale yeast has a fast fermentation and high flocculation rate. This ale yeast is recommended for a large variety of ale beers including Stouts, Porters, Brown Ale, Milds and English Bitter Beers.  More recently, this yeast has become popular for brewing hoppy hazy beers.

S-04 is well-known for its fast fermentation character and its ability to form a very compact sediment (trub) at the end of the fermentation, helping to improve beer clarity.
